Around every corner is the lure to consume. A desire to be satisfied. Unfortunately no human being has found anything under the sun that brings satisfaction. So we consume more, and more, and more. Eventually, we overdose. However, there is hope–if Christianity is our Rehab. In Jesus, satisfaction can be found. Grace, love, peace and hope can be found…and there is always more. Consume more of Jesus. Overdose.
Rehab: The Overdose officially hits stores and online outlets 1.11.11.

On September 30, 2008, Lecrae dropped “Rebel.” It’s two years later and Lecrae is about to drop his newest album on September 28th, entitled “Rehab.” This album seems to have even more variety than Rebel did. In fact, according to a Facebook post by Lecrae, “the difference between Rebel and Rehab. Big Difference.” I don’t have the album yet but I have heard the leaked singles and promo videos at the Reach Records Website. I also follow Lecrae on Facebook. If you want to check into Rehab, follow Lecrae and keep checking in for more info.
The new single, “Do It Where Ya At!” is now available to download from Amazon.com for .89. It gets downloaded in a high-quality mp3 format. If you haven’t grabbed it yet then click here and get your download.
The song focuses on viewing ministry as a part of our everyday lives right where God has placed us instead of a specific time set aside to do something. It’s a call to all people to be effective right where God has placed us so that we can all impact the world with God’s love and truth and stop missing opportunities along the way.
Tomorrow, June 22, 2010, the new album “Between Two Worlds” from Trip Lee will drop on iTunes, Holy Culture Download, The Bus Shop, Amazon and many other places. You will even be able to pick up a special version with two remixes at Family Christian Bookstores. Let me just say that this album will not disappoint. I got my copy in the mail last week and I have been bumpin it hard ever since. Of course, everyone has their favorites so I will mostly cover my favorites on this Blog.
The album starts off with “Real Life Music.” It’s another great intro song from the Reach Records camp…they do those so well. It’s not positive music, it’s not hood music…it’s Real Life Music for everyone. This song makes you just wanna jump right in and go.
The second song is “Snitch.” This is definitely a windows-down, head bobbin’ song – and this album has a few of those. When I saw the title I wondered how Trip was gonna make being a snitch something cool. How can telling on someone be a good theme for a song? Aaaah – Trip’s a snitch because he tells on himself when he confesses his sin to God and his brothers. Bangin song!
“No Worries” is another great song with a hot beat and great vocals that tells about the fact that God’s standards are too high to meet. Even though this is stated and people wonder how Trip plans on gettin by, he just tells em, “I ain’t got no worries, I ain’t worried bout a thing.” That’s the assurance you get from knowing Jesus.
Now here is one of my 14 year-old son’s favorite songs: ”Covenant Eyes” featuring Pro (Who is becoming one of my favorite rappers). Another one of those songs that will have you movin your neck as you roll down the street in your ride. This is a great song about the battle that we all have with the lust of the flesh. While this song could have you wanting to dance or come up with some cool moves for a potential video, it’s not one you will want to sing as you walk in a public place. You will understand when you hear the whistling on the hook. You may just want to do the whistle in your head unless you are in your car or at home.
“I Love Music” is one of those Summer Music, feel-good songs. This song is one I can definitely relate to because I love music! Even those who may not be into rap will at least appreciate the horns on this track that make it so unique, yet so feel-good. A perfect song for Sho Baraka to show up on as a guest.
“Twisted” featuring Lecrae, Pro and Thi’sl- this is one of those tracks that goes hard, like “Go Hard or Go Home” by Lecrae or “Make War” by Tedashii. Lyrically they address the way the world got it twisted in their thoughts about making money their god. In a world where everyone from kids to adults, fast food workers to corporate execs, celebrities to criminials and office managers to politicians idolize their looks, their money, their clothes, cars, homes and their swag, this song breaks it down to show us that this is a twisted view.
The last song I am going to go over is my favorite track on the CD (and the new ringtone on my Droid), “Bear With You” featuring Tedashii. Not only is this another true dirty south, neck jerkin song but it is so opposite of what most people in the world would do, and even people in the church. The song is about bearing with people instead of going after them for revenge or trying to just make your life easy by leaving a relationship. The lyrics build to spots where you think “oh, it’s about to go down!” Then comes the line, “I’mma Bear With You,” the response that brings glory to Christ.
Get this album or get this album for someone you know who listens to rap music and needs somethin in their headphones that is, well…Real Life Music.
(On a side note…I have been bumpin this CD so much that the other night I dreamed I was doing a concert and the lady wanted me to do a bunch of songs from Between Two Worlds with my songs and I agreed. Then I realized that I don’t know any of those songs yet and I don’t have the performance tracks. Besides, I’m no Trip Lee. That was a wild dream.)
In a world where the media bombards today’s youth (and everyone else) with songs that are so centered on self-satisfaction including sex, getting drunk, getting high, more sex and pride, it’s good to have dudes out there like Trip Lee. Lemme just say that if you ain’t ever heard of Trip Lee, pay attention. If you are a fan of artists like T.I., Young Jeezy and Ludacris then this is a CD you are gonna wanna check out. The CD comes out June 22, 2010 and can be downloaded directly from itunes.
I will be posting reviews soon but I can tell you already that this CD is gonna be worth the money, especially if you wanna give it to someone who doesn’t know Christ. Check back.
I was just reading the Facebook page for Westridge Church and saw that 50 plus students gave their lives to Christ at camp this past week. I got soooo excited!! Why? Well, even though I don’t know any of those students, I have a heart for students. Students are faced with so many challenges today and barraged with so much media and temptation to not follow Christ and to chase pleasure. Following Christ is harder than ever. Last year I wrote a spoken word piece for a conference I was a part of called Alive Conference and I have posted it below and pray that it will encourage any of those students – or ANY student who has committed their life to following Christ.
Gimme just a minute to spit it so you can get it
You say “God can’t use me, man. You might as well forget it.”
And others say “Don’t bother them, they’re just some teenagers.
Let em get it out their system and God can use em later.”
Well thanks for the tip but really I’m not a waiter
although I Do Serve the one who’s my Lord and my Savior
and He’s the same God who used teens in the past
just look in His Word, man, why we lookin past
All the teens in tha church that wanna know their mission?
But we seem to brush em off like “They just some new Christians”
But ain’t the Lord told us that the young will see visions?
Let’s make these disciples to fulfill the great commission
AGE DEFINES TIME BUT IT DOESN’T DEFINE YOU
AND WHEN CHRIST DEFINES YOUR LIFE THERE’S NO TELLIN WHAT HE MIGHT DO
DON’T LET THEM SAY BECAUSE OF AGE THAT YOU SHOULD QUIT, GIVE UP OR DROP OUT
AND NEVER SAY “I CAN’T BECAUSE OF AGE” – THAT’S JUST A COP-OUT
What about Joseph with the coat of many colors?
And what about David – the youngest of all his brothers
yet he was the one chosen – What about Jesus’ mother?
Mary was a teen. I could go on about some others
see, you don’t have to wait til summer to hit the mission field
just walk through your school halls and look beyond the faces of steel
because behind them there are tears, pain and brokenness
start viewing your school years as and extended mission trip
instead of judgin’ someone because of their style or their fashion
how about showin a little love, grace, mercy and compassion
popularity is like a vapor – it’s here and then it’s gone
but what you do for Christ will go on and on and on
AGE DEFINES TIME BUT IT DOESN’T DEFINE YOU
AND WHEN CHRIST DEFINES YOUR LIFE THERE’S NO TELLIN WHAT HE MIGHT DO
DON’T LET THEM SAY BECAUSE OF AGE THAT YOU SHOULD QUIT, GIVE UP OR DROP OUT
AND NEVER SAY “I CAN’T BECAUSE OF AGE” – THAT’S JUST A COP-OUT

Parents, pay close attention. You may be surprised at what is going on.
Facebook, Twitter and Formspring. If you know what those are then you are familiar with social networking. But the question is, are you aware of what your kids and their friends are doing on these sites? I know, I know, you say you want to trust your 13 year old and not pry but if you only knew…and you should! Kids are using these sites to attack each other, openly talk about sexual acts, answer questions about private issues and more. The language used by most of the kids is comparable to what you would find at bar or night club…and maybe even worse. The problem is that the parents are clueless as to what the kids are doing, so they keep doing it. It’s not even hidden – it’s RIGHT THERE on their page. All the parents have to do is look!
Let me tell you a story real quick: In April I went to a county juvenile detention center as part of a ministry. We broke into groups toward the end and I spoke with an 8th grade boy who had been in the center 8 or 9 times. We got on the subject of his parents and I asked if his parents had rules. He told me that his dad basically let him do whatever he wanted, even leave the house after midnight. He said that when he gets out of the detention center that he is going to live with his mom and that he is glad because she disciplines him more. Yes. He REALLY said that. Why? Because our kids know that if we discipline them that it is because we love them and that if we let them do whatever they want, that we really don’t care.
So when you don’t check out your kid’s Facebook or Formspring page, you are telling them that you don’t care. You are basically giving them a pass to do and say whatever they want. You may be saying you trust them, but can you really trust an early teen or preteen kid to make wise decisions on their own? I mean, they may want to do the right thing but there is so much pressure. YOUR job is to be the parent, not just when it is convenient, but ALL the time.
So here’s a parenting challenge for you. Get on your child’s Facebook or Formspring page and check it out. Then if you really want to know what’s going on around them…click the FB Friends and read their pages and click on the links of people who made comments on their Formspring page. I PROMISE you that most of you will be shocked, especially if you are reading this thinking that you wouldn’t be. So let’s see what happens. Let me know with your comments.
