Tha Only Thing that Counts

I’ve been studyin’ a lot in Galatians and just got into Ephesians.  I’m one of them fellas that can’t just read through it, like a chapter a day.  I like to think about it, go back and read it again, check out what tha commentary says and look at the whole context of certain verses that I think I may have just skimmed over in tha past.

So tha big verse that’s permeatin’ my dome right now is Galatians 5:6.  It states, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value.  The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”  Basically, Paul is sayin ‘ that there is no hope in tha flesh.  If we could grab hold of righteousness and attain it through our flesh, then Christ died for nuthin!  There’s no value in what we deem ritualistically prosperous to our spirits.  We get no braggin’ rights. On the other hand, he says that if we are made righteous through the blood of Jesus, that the only thing that counts is that we have really surrendered enuff to God in our faith that His love is kickin’ so hard inside of us that we’re compelled to share our faith with, and show our faith to others.  It’s tha love that should get us goin’ – not cuz we gotta.  Not cuz we need to feel like we did somethin’ good or right.  But that can’t happen if we don’t get up in His Word and spend time with him.  We gotta draw near to Him and He will draw near to us.  People wanna see who Jesus really is.  They don’t want a list of dos and donts.  Once they understand His love they will be drawn to Him.  Then, because they love Him, they will desire to do the things He asks – but not until then. 

I know I gotta do this, but we all need to search ourselves.  We gotta figure out if He is so real in our lives that it is Him that people see when we do what we do or us.  I know…you believe He is real, but is it in your head only or has it got into your heart?  Is His Word flowin’ thru ya or do ya just lock it up in ya cranium?  Are we livin’ it only when others are lookin’ that know we are Christians, or all that time?  Are we really doing the only thing that counts?  Cuz we can’t – not unless He is doing it in us and through us.  If we are truly saved then do we truly desire to express our faith through love or just get out there and “be right?”  Never forsake tha truth…but never bring it without bringin it thru love.
