Lecrae’s New Album, Rebel, Coming Soon!

I know I posted on this upcoming album previously but I just listened to three full tracks off of the upcoming release and they are great.  My favorite track so far is entitled “Got Paper.”  In this song, Lecrae addresses people who chase money and pursue it in vain.  I want to take a minute to really dive into this song because there are so many people really chasing money and the things this world has to offer, which are nothing compared to what we get in Christ.

First off, the song starts by talkin’ about some guys rollin’ past Lecrae in their “Fly coups.”  He says “They blow their G’s on it, then they die and what’s the use?”  Yeah – it’s a rap song, but that really is deep.  So many people “spin their wheels” and spend hours or their whole life tryin’ to get rich because they believe there will be satisfaction in that.  They believe that they will finally have peace when they get all that money so they can buy the things they want.  We are pursuing money more than God – and that is breaking the first commandment.

After the first hook, Lecrae goes on to say, “Hey people want that cheese, American Mozzerella/The enemy’s rat trap might snap any second.”  Lemme break this down for ya.  Follow me here.  When you set a rat trap, some rats will walk up and just grab the cheese while some take their time eating it little by little until…SNAP!!…they get trapped and eventually die.  As Americans we have been attracted to the trap with promises of a better life, lust of the flesh or finer things.  We get there and we get trapped by the enemy.  We spend our whole lives trying to finish the cheese or get out of the trap so we have no time for the One who loves us.  Lecrae even references I Timothy 6, where you can find these verses:

9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

This leads me to one of my other favorite quotes from Lecrae in this song, which is, “And it’s sickenin’ – That knowin’ God ain’t good enough, We gotta tell ‘em they can get rich quickly.”  Yeah – that is sickening.  Churches are compromising the Gospel and creating a heretical prosperity message out of it by using scripture out of context so they can get more money and more people.  What good does it do to attract people and use that money for buildings, etc., if they never hear the message of the cross?  NONE!  There is so much truth wrapped up in this song that I just can’t cover it all.

Again, Lecrae brings us a theologically and doctrinally sound message thru some beats and mic. skills that will speak to those who wouldn’t otherwise listen to the Truth.  To listen to the song, go to http://reachrecords.com/index.php and look under the NEWS section where it says “Listen up Rebels.”  Click that link and follow it to where you can hear the tracks.

Don’t forget, you can also pre-order Lecrae’s release on the Reach Records site and the release will drop on September 30th!!
